Chances are since you’ve found us, you’re probably one of the swelling wave of people who are striving to shop smarter, eat healthier and be part of a positive shift towards a better way of doing food. We’re here to make it easy and fun, because food should be a celebration and you need a hand-up in realizing your good intentions.
Rather than focus on the seemingly insurmountable wrong-doings of the current food and agriculture situation, Fresh Option wants to simplify your options for accessing a sustainable food system. We gather for you foods you can trust and feel good about. Organic, local, fair trade, and vegetarian: whole fresh foods produced by real people we know on Manitoban small-scale farms when possible.
Sustainable agriculture involves food production methods that minimize harm to the environment, support farming communities, and do not defer the cost of food to future generations by pushing off the actual costs that should be associated to human and environmental health. Characteristics of this type of agriculture include: conservation, preservation, biodiversity, and economical viability, with justice to workers and animals respected.
Sustainable food is not so much a definition but more like a philosophy or way of life than a strict set of rules. Woe is that there is no one label that tells us, “yes, this item fits your criteria and will honor every one of your hopes and dreams”. At F.O.O.D. our goal is to provide a variety of the foods that you regularly buy, and by scrutinizing every purchase we make, to take that onus off you.
Many of our customers tell us they don’t have the time or motivation to look into each purchase (which you likely know leads you way beyond just reading labels), and they know if they get a fresh box and some add-on groceries from us, they can rely that we’ve done that ethics sleuthing for them. Boom, done. Let’s eat.
