SIGN UP (and cancellation of service)
Submit our Sign Me Up form and choose what size of bin suits your needs.
You will automatically receive a Fresh Box each week.
We’ll send a Welcome email with your start date. Your fresh box (with or without add-on groceries) will be delivered on the same evening each week. That will be Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday evening, depending on what area of Winnipeg you live in.
CUSTOMIZE YOUR FRESH BIN At Sign Up
Tell us what produce items you never want – permanent dislikes or allergies. We will ensure you never get the things you don’t like, and make substitutions using your preference list. On weeks when your “dislikes’ are in the bin contents, you will instead automatically receive produce of an equivalent value.
FRESH BIN CONTENTS
The fresh box contents are set, and carefully chosen by our expert produce buyer for seasonality, quality, price, and to provide a typical household’s fruits and vegetables for healthy snacks and meals. We will get you the best value and quality for your week’s produce budget, quality guaranteed.
You can check what will be in your next week’s fresh bin each week by clicking on This Week’s Fresh Bin. Upcoming bin contents are posted each Friday by 4:00pm for the following week. Bin contents posted to the website are a best estimate and are subject to some changes due to the volatile nature of weather, farming, perishable produce and transport.
BLUE BIN SYSTEM
All of our fresh box orders are delivered to you in a reusable blue bin. We pick up the bin(s) on your next delivery. If the bin(s) are not returned your third order and all orders after will come in a cardboard box and a $3 charge per cardboard box, until the bin(s) are returned. There will be a charge equal to the current market price of the blue bins applied to your account after 4 weeks if you do not return our bins ($10-15 per bin). All final fresh boxes will also be placed in cardboard (without cardboard fee).
NEWSLETTER
Our informal weekly newsletter for fresh box customers is an opportunity to share information about what’s in the box: where and how your food was grown, factors affecting local farmers and eaters, produce storage and cooking tips, grocery specials, and recipes to inspire as you integrate this fresh produce into your ‘menu’. The recipes are produce-forward (mostly vegan, always vegetarian) and highlight ingredients that can be found in your current Fresh Box and from our grocery add-on offerings. Starting in 2021 we are emailing the newsletter and discontinued the print copy.
ADD ON GROCERIES
Add groceries from our on-line shopping cart and we’ll pack it along with your fresh box! SUPER SIMPLE! *Orders by Monday mornings are appreciated, but the official cut-off deadline is noon the day prior to your delivery day*
You can choose to set up a “standing order“. Popular standing orders are milk, eggs & bakery items. When you submit an order from our shopping cart, note in comments “organic eggs are a STANDING order”, which means you want with every delivery.
SKIP A WEEK
You can skip one or several weeks, Let us know by email. The deadline to skip is 12:00 NOON the day PRIOR to your scheduled delivery. We appreciate even more notice but you will be charged if we do not receive notification by the deadline.
Fresh Option donates surplus food each week to a local food bank, shelter or community kitchen. Some customers request their skipped delivery be donated to one of these organizations to help the less fortunate eat well in Winnipeg.
RECEIVING DELIVERIES
You don’t need to be home during the delivery window (5:30-9:30pm) to receive your delivery. If you do not answer when we ring or knock, our Delivery Drivers will leave your order outside your front door (or another agreed upon safe location you pre-arrange). Apartment dwellers – we will need access to your building using a buzz code so we can leave your box at your interior suite door rather than in the lobby.
PLEASE NOTE: It is your responsibility to check for your delivery. Especially in extreme cold or hot weather. Your payment is processed during office hours on the day of your delivery and that charge will not be refunded.
SPECIAL DELIVERY INSTRUCTIONS / EXTREME WEATHER
If it’s below -20 Celsius, somebody should be home to receive the box. Fresh produce that sits outside over an hour may otherwise be frozen or compromised in quality.
QUALITY GUARANTEE
Our Promise: We strive to make your experience in opening each fresh bin a joy you look forward to each week!!! Please let us know if we’ve missed our mark so we can achieve that goal. Fresh Option staff sorts and hand packs each fresh bin with utmost care. Some variation in size, shape, color, and even the occasional bug is considered an acceptable part of organic produce, If you receive an item that is substandard in freshness or quality, we are happy to replace the item in your next box, or with other produce of the same value. Just email us immediately with details/photo (within 24 hours of receiving) so we can address the problem.
